From essential surgical procedures to complex orthopaedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgeries, our skilled team is equipped to provide expert care.

Advanced Soft Tissue Surgeries

  • General Soft Tissue Surgery

This broad capability allows our Armidale Veterinary Surgeons to perform a wide variety of complex internal procedures such as exploratory surgery, foreign body removal, biopsies, gastropexy, and cystotomy.

  • Obstetric Surgeries

We offer advanced obstetric surgery to manage complications related to pregnancy, birth, and post-partum care, ensuring the best possible outcome for mother and offspring.

  • Specialized Eyelid Surgeries

This surgical field offers correction for various eyelid conditions, including:

    • Entropion: Surgical correction for eyelids that roll inward.
    • Ectropion: Surgical correction for eyelids that roll outward.
    • Cherry Eye Surgery: Surgical treatment for the prolapse of the gland of the third eyelid.
    • Eyelid Mass Removals: Surgical excision of growths on the eyelids.

  • Upper Airway Surgery

We are equipped to perform highly specialized upper respiratory surgery. This is often essential for brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds, such as pugs and bulldogs, who suffer from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS).

Emergency Surgery & Intensive Care

Our ability to handle unscheduled, critical, and life-threatening situations is part of our commitment to you and your pet. This ensures continuous, reliable care for animals in acute distress.

  • Emergency Surgery

Our teams are prepared to handle a full range of soft tissue and orthopaedic emergencies. With some locations offering 24-hour emergency services, we are ready to provide urgent emergency procedures whenever it’s needed.

Orthopaedic Veterinary Services

Orthopaedic surgery, which addresses conditions of the bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons, is a part of our veterinary specialties. Our capabilities in this area reflect a significant investment in specialized equipment, diagnostic imaging, and surgeons with advanced training.

  • Fracture Repair

We have extensive experience in fracture repair, which involves the surgical stabilization of broken bones using advanced techniques and implants like plates, pins, or wires.

  • General Orthopaedic Surgery

Our team is skilled in a wide range of orthopaedic procedures. For the most complex cases, we may work in collaboration with visiting specialist surgeons, ensuring your pet receives the highest standard of care through a network of expertise.

Routine Surgeries

These services are involved procedures that our veterinary clinics perform in our Armidale Veterinary Surgery. They address the primary veterinary care needs of pet owners and large animals in our general practice.

  • Dental Treatments

Our dental services, which often involve surgical extractions and other interventions, are a routine part of our veterinary services.

  • Elective Caesarean

We offer elective caesareans to provide dedicated services for breeders and to help manage planned births (induction), extending our routine care into reproductive health management.

  • Lump Removals & Wound Repair

We are fully equipped to handle common procedures like the surgical removal of growths and the expert repair of injuries (like bite wounds), addressing the day-to-day surgical needs of your pets.

  • Routine Desexing

Desexing (Spaying/Neutering) is classed as a routine surgical service that our Armidale Vets offer.

Specialised Veterinary Surgeries

Beyond the above broad categories, we are proud to offer veterinary specialisation in the following:

  • Advanced Dental Surgery

Distinguishing us from routine dental care, we offer advanced procedures such as tooth restorations. This involves complex work, like root canals, to save damaged teeth—a capability not commonly found in general practice.

  • Ophthalmic Surgery (Eye Surgery)

This involves surgical treatment of the eye for a variety of conditions such as cataract surgery. In some regions, we have established centers of excellence to provide focused expertise in ophthalmology.

Veterinary Surgeries FAQs

Just a few common questions about Veterinary Surgeries. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!

  • How do you ensure my pet is safe for surgery and anaesthesia?

Before any invasive procedure, we strongly recommend pre-anaesthetic blood testing using our in-house pathology services. This allows us to check your pet’s organ function (especially liver and kidneys) immediately before anesthesia to identify any underlying risks and tailor a plan specifically for your pet.

  • My pet is a Pug, French bulldog or British bulldog. What is BOAS and why might they need surgery?

Surgery may be required where breeds can suffer from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). This is a collection of anatomical issues, such as narrow nostrils and an elongated soft palate, that can severely restrict their breathing.

  • Are there any common seasonal surgeries I should be aware of?

The most common seasonal issue we see requiring surgery is grass seed penetration.
