About our Pet Wellness at North Hill Veterinary Clinic

Preventative care keeps pets healthier, happier and living longer. Regular health checks let your vet examine your pet nose-to-tail and give tailored advice on diet, parasite prevention, behaviour, dental care and vaccines — catching issues early before they become serious.

We recommend annual wellness checks for healthy adults and twice-yearly visits for seniors or pets with ongoing conditions.

If you’re part of the “Best Mates program, wellness care becomes even easier with bundled savings and benefits.

Our North Hill Veterinary Clinic Pet Wellness Services

  • Comprehensive health check (eyes, ears, skin/coat, teeth & gums, heart & lungs, abdomen, joints, weight & body condition). Regular physical exams allow our veterinarians to establish a baseline of your pet’s health, monitor for subtle changes, and detect early signs of disease that may not yet be apparent to your as a pet owner. One of our Armidale veterinarians will assess your pet’s diet, lifestyle, and behavior to make tailored recommendations.
  • Vaccinations tailored to species, age and lifestyle (e.g., core vaccines; kennel cough for dogs; feline respiratory diseases for cats). A vet health check is performed before vaccination.
  • Parasite prevention: year-round plans for fleas, paralysis ticks (risk varies by region), heartworm and intestinal worms.
  • Nutrition & weight management with life-stage diets and feeding plans. Trained veterinary staff can provide tailored feeding plans and support systems to help your pets achieve and maintain a healthy weight.
  • Dental checks: Dental disease is one of the most common sources of pain in pets and can lead to more serious systemic health issues if left untreated. Proactive care includes professional dental cleanings as well as guidance on at-home care, such as brushing..
  • Microchipping and desexing guidance.
  • Baseline Diagnostics and Screening: Many illnesses manifest internally long before they are visible to the eye. Routine blood work and other diagnostic tests are essential for catching “invisible illnesses” early. This is particularly important for senior pets, where the chances of an undetected issue increase with age.
  • Behaviour & lifestyle advice (exercise, enrichment, travel, boarding).

Life-Stage Wellness

  • Puppies & Kittens: series of vaccinations, parasite control, microchip/desexing timing, nutrition and training basics.
  • Adult Pets: annual health check, boosters, year-round parasite prevention, dental care and weight checks.
  • Seniors: twice-yearly exams recommended; focus on mobility, dental, organ function and early disease detection (lab screening as advised).

Wellness at Home

  • Keep a simple health diary (app or fridge note) for eating, drinking, activity, stools, dental routine and meds.
  • Maintain a brushing & dental chew routine and stick to your parasite calendar.
  • Monitor weight/body condition and adjust diet with your vet’s advice.

Pet Wellness FAQs

Just a few common questions about Pet Wellness. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!

  • Do vets check my pet before giving vaccines?

Yes. A health check is performed before vaccination to ensure your pet is fit for their shots and to tailor the plan.

  • Is there a plan that helps with wellness costs?

We offer Best Mates memberships with savings on routine care. Ask our team about the benefits and how to join.

  • What parasite protection do I need?

Most pets need year-round prevention for fleas and intestinal worms; heartworm and tick protection are advised based on location and lifestyle. Our Armidale Vet will set the right schedule.

At least annually for healthy adults; more often for seniors or pets with medical needs. Your vet will advise what’s right for your pet.
