Fluoroscopy FAQs

Just a few common questions about Fluoroscopy. If there is something else you need to know just ask in the Contact Us form below!

  • If my dog has a "Liver Shunt." Will you use this?

es! We inject a dye into a vein and watch it travel to the liver. If there is a “shunt” (a vessel bypassing the liver), we see the dye take the wrong exit ramp in real-time.

  • Can any vet do this

No. Fluoroscopy units (C-Arms) are expensive and require specialized training and room shielding. It is typically found in specialist centers or advanced general practices like our North Hill Veterinary Clinic.

  • What is an Endoscopy?

An Endoscopy puts a camera inside the throat to look at the surface (is it red/ulcerated?)

  • What is an Fluoroscopy?

A Fluoroscopy looks through the throat to look at the function (are the muscles working?). We often use both Endoscopy and Fluoroscopy to fully understand a swallowing problem.
